The 2011 Charles Evans PCF Pro/Am Tour hosted its first Tennis event of the year at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, CA. The venue provided a spectacular location and unparalleled backdrop to watch the top ten players in the world battle for the BNP Paribas title. Donors of the pro/am tour and their guests were treated to the best center-court suite in the stadium to view the weekend matches, as well as, a magnificent dinner party hosted at the Big Horn residence of legendary Hollywood Producer Jerry Weintraub.
Many of the top doubles players in the world teamed up with the PCF tour amateurs for a weekend of tournament play. On Sunday, after the final two rounds, four teams emerged from the matches and advanced to the two featured finals. In the 1st final, returning 2010 PCF Tour champion, Sam Herzberg and his long standing partner, Jonathan Schneider, matched up against the team from India, ex Davis Cup coach Narendra Singh and current 10th ranked doubles player in the world and 2010 U.S. Open doubles finalist, Rohan Bopanna. In a hard fought battle, Narendra and Rohan emerged as victors in the final. Finalists Sam and Jonathan, regular competitors on the tour, earned valuable tour points towards the next tour stop.
In the 2nd final, veteran PCF player Joel Pashcow, also a returning 2010 PCF tour champion teamed with Serbian Davis Cup Player Nenad Zimonjic currently the 4th ranked doubles player in the world and 5 time grand slam doubles champion. They competed against amateur Fernando Sartorius of Spain in his first pro/am appearance and former French Open Doubles Champion Murphy Jensen. Joel and Nenad finally won the evenly matched final with an entertaining, hard hitting 9-7 victory.
Additionally, this year’s pro/am competition featured by far, the strongest level of amateur play in 14 years of PCF Pro/Am Tour history. Tour points determined from the results of this event can be viewed on the 2011 leader board. The Prostate Cancer Foundation and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the sponsors, as well as the Indian Wells pro/am team participants.
We hope to see everyone on the 2nd Charles Evans PCF Pro/Am Tour stop in Westchester, CT at the fabulous Westchester Country Club!
