The Charles Evans PCF Pro/Am Tour brought our competitors from Greenwich, CT,
to the glamorous Hamptons for the 3rd stop on the tour. The weekend opened with
participants and their guests gathering on Friday evening at the palatial home of Lauren
and Bob Roberts, allowing good friends to reunite over cocktails in the garden. Dinner
followed on the terrace with entertainment provided by the legendary David Foster, with
special guest, American Idol winner, Ruben Studdard.
Teams collected on Saturday morning at various private homes as well as The Ross
School for the first 2 rounds of the Pro/Am. Afterwards, lunch at the Palin compound
was yet again a highlight of the weekend, serving up the famous lobster rolls and
other traditional Hamptons delicacies and delights poolside. After the dessert
buffet disappeared, guests were invited to a golf competition with a “closest to the pin”
challenge on the estate’s private golf course. Alex O’ Brien proved he was not only one
of the greatest doubles players in tennis, but his real hidden talent is golf!
The Saturday evening dinner party, hosted by Carol and Stewart Rahr at their magnificent
East Hampton home, provided yet another unforgettable experience for all. Guests were
treated to a spectacular evening of cocktails, dinner, movie stars, celebrities, and political
figures, not to mention entertainment featuring musicial stars Andrea Bocelli and Alicia
Keys.
Due to a duel with mother nature, 2 years in a row, the final day’s play on Sunday
morning was relocated from The Ross School and hosted at Sportime in Quogue.
Fortunately, the indoor courts allowed players to begin their matches, finishing up
outside as weather conditions improved. After about 4 hours of play, Am Ricky Sandler
and his Pro partner Rick Leach kept their unbelievable winning streak, of 15 matches in a
row, alive by beating Am Jeff Rudnick and his Pro partner Jason Pinsky in one division.
In the other division, Am Sammy Herzberg and his Pro partner Jonathan Schneider
proved again to be the top of their group with an extremely close victory over Am Amy
Griffin and her Pro partner Jared Palmer.
Our leader board reveals Sam Herzberg holding a slim lead over Joel Pashcow, followed
by Tim Gannon in 3rd place. The final event for the year, in Palm Beach, will reveal the 2
tour champions for 2011.
Once again, a very big thank you to the Charles Evans Foundation, Carol and Stewart
Rahr, Lauren and Bob Roberts, The Palin Family, Mr. & Mrs. Ricky Sandler, Mr. & Mrs.
Allan Rose, Mr. & Mrs. Bob Adler, The Ross School, Movado, Thorlo, Babolat, Menaji
and, of course, all of our amateurs and professionals.
Next stop…Palm Beach!
